Candid

  • Candid: In 2019, the Foundation Center and GuideStar combined to become Candid.
  • Find Funding: Find information on over 140,000 funders.
  • Foundation Directory Online: This research tool and service includes grantmaker profiles, grant information, maps and charts, 990 forms and much more. FDO is available at UC Berkeley, based on the campus subscription provided by the Library. (Access through VPN required from off campus.)
  • Philanthropy News Digest RFPs: Philanthropy News Digest publishes RFPs and notices of awards as a free service for grant-making organizations and nonprofits.

Grantmakers Associations

  • Northern California Grantmakers: NGC brings together foundations, nonprofit organizations, government, and business to tackle the region’s most pressing social issues.
  • Grantmakers for Education: GFE is the nation’s largest and most diverse network of education grantmakers dedicated to improving educational outcomes and increasing opportunities for all learners.

Bay Area Grantmakers

  • Clorox Company Foundation: The foundation focuses on programs that support cultural arts, K-12 education with a focus on STEM and literacy, urban farming and youth development. It serves the communities surrounding the Oakland, California, headquarters as well as those surrounding remote offices and manufacturing facilities.
  • Carl Gellert and Celia Berta Gellert Foundation: The Foundation promotes religious, charitable, scientific, literary, and educational activities in the nine counties of the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Genentech Foundation: The Foundation charitable giving strategy focuses on three core objectives: Advance Scientific Knowledge, Enhance Health Outcomes, and Support Our Local Communities.
  • Kimball Foundation: The Foundation makes grants in support of college access and persistence, vocational and workplace skill development, cultural enrichment, and environmental education serving disadvantaged youth in San Francisco, Marin, San Mateo, and Sonoma counties, and to a limited extent Santa Clara county, as far south as Palo Alto.
  • San Francisco Foundation: The San Francisco Foundation has launched a grantmaking strategy that focuses on advancing racial and economic equity. The Foundation supports the Bay Area region through grants in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties.

California Grantmakers

  • Blue Shield of California Foundation: The Foundation mission is to improve the lives of all Californians, particularly the underserved, by making health care accessible, effective, and affordable, and by ending domestic violence. The two program areas are Health Care and Coverage and Blue Shield Against Violence.
  • California Health Care Foundation: CHCF is dedicated to advancing meaningful, measurable improvements in the way the health care delivery system provides care to the people of California, particularly those with low incomes and those whose needs are not well served by the status quo.
  • California Wellness Foundation: The mission of the Foundation is to improve the health of the people of California by making grants for health promotion, wellness education and disease prevention.
  • James Irvine Foundation: The focus is on expanding economic and political opportunity for California families and young adults who are working but struggling with poverty.
